DR AMRAN MUHAMMAD is a founding member responsible in the conceptualisation, formation and organisation of the Islamic and Strategic Studies Institute (ISSI). He received BSc in Economics from University of Alabama, USA, MA in Islamic History and Philosophy of Science from the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC, Kuala Lumpur) and PhD in Science and Technology Policy from the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of Manchester, UK.

He has been selected as Malaysian National Research Partner for the Atlas of Islamic World – Science and Innovation under the Royal Society of United Kingdom and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) from 2009-2012. While serving the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur from 1998-2013, he was Head of the Department of Science and Technology Studies and Deputy Director of the University Malaya’s Centre for Civilisational Dialogue.

He is also at present Research Director at the Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA) based in Putrajaya, Malaysia and Southeast Asia Director of Kalam Research and Media (KRM) based in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dr Yusri Mohamad

DR YUSRI MOHAMAD is currently the Executive Chairman of the Islamic Dakwah Foundation of Malaysia (YADIM). Dr.Yusri was a faculty member with the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for more than 15 years. He studied at the prestigious Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak before pursuing Civil and Shariah Law education at the IIUM and School Of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London before successfully defending his Phd thesis in Islamic Jurisprudence at the IIUM.

Dr.Yusri has also been active in leading various social and non-governmental organizations including the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM), the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM), the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) and the Allied Coordinating Committee for Islamic NGOs (ACCIN).

Dr.Yusri has been involved since his university days as a speaker, paper presenter and trainer at various NGOs, leadership, motivational and academic seminars both local and overseas. In the same capacity, he has appeared on several television and radio programs. He has also published a number of articles and has appeared in exclusive interviews in local newspapers, magazines and journals.

DR MOHD FARID MOHD SHAHRAN is currently a Senior Fellow and Director, Centre of the Study of Shariah, Laws and Politics, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM).

He obtained his bachelor degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in the field of Islamic Studies with a specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence and Principle of Islamic Jurisprudence. He then pursued his M.A. and Ph.D. in the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization Malaysia (ISTAC) in the field of Islamic Thought in 1999 and 2006 respectively. He worked as a Research Fellow in ISTAC for eight years (1995-2003) before he served as a lecturer in Department of Usuluddin and Comparative Religion, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage, IIUM from 2003-2011.

His areas of interest are Islamic Thought, Islamic Civilization and Education. Among his academic writings are Issues in Islamic Thought (2008), “Divine Transcendence and the Issue of Anthropomorphism,” in Islamic Revealed Knowledge: Dimensions of Thought (2011) and “Religion and the Challenge of Ethical Subjectivism” in Journal of AFKAR, University of Malaya. His books include Isu-Isu dalam Pemikiran Islam (2008) dan Manhaj Pendidikan Gerakan Islam (2009), Akidah dan Pemikiran Islam: Isu dan Cabaran (2013), Pluralisme Agama: Satu Penelitian Islami (2014).

Dr Mohd Farid has been presenting hundreds of papers and giving lectures locally and internationally including in Germany, Turkey, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia. Among research collaborations he has conducted are with Centre of Integrated Area Studies (CIAS), Kyoto University, Japan, University of Malaya (UM) and University Putra Malaysia (UPM). He also conducted trainings in various institutions in Malaysia such as INTAN, JAKIM and IKIM.

Among his other involvements are; Research Fellow in Fatwa Division, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), member of JAKIM Aqidah Expert Council and member of Fatwa Council of Negeri Sembilan. He was also appointed as Senior Fellow in Institute of Strategic Research Malaysia (IKSIM) and Centre of Human Rights, Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA). Apart from that, he is also advisor of two intellectual based institutions; Himpunan Keilmuan Muslim (HAKIM) and Klasika Media.

Datuk-Dr-Marzuki-Mohamad

DATUK DR MARZUKI MOHAMAD  is  an  Associate  Professor  in  the  Department  of  Political  Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He started his academic career at IIUM in 1999. From April 2009 until July 2015, he served as Special Officer and later Political Secretary to former Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Marzuki  graduated  with  a  law  degree  from  the  International  Islamic  University Malaysia in  1998. He obtained his M.A in political science from the National University of Malaysia in 2002 and PhD in political science from the Australian National University in 2008. His areas of research interest are law and politics, ethnic politics and political Islam.

Dr-Haslina-Ibrahim

DR HASLINA IBRAHIM serves the Department of Usuluddin and Comparative Religion at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Her areas of interest are Comparative Religion, Inter-Faith Relation and Da’wah. She is currently working on a fundamental research on religion in Malaysia where she is expected to develop a framework for inter-faith relation in the Malaysian context.

She is also working to develop a feasible approach and method in reconciling between Comparative Religion and Islamic Theology (Usuluddin). Dr Haslina has Bachelor of Usuluddin from University of Malaya. He obtained Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge from IIUM. Later she pursued her PhD in Usuluddin and Comparative Religion also from IIUM.

Dr-Mastura-Badzis

DR MASTURA BADZIS is Associate Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Kulliyyah of Education, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Arabic Linguistic from Muhammad Al-Khamis University, Rabat, Morocco.

Then she completed Postgraduate Diploma of Education, Islamic Teachers College, Malaysia before continuing her Masters of Education (M.Ed), at IIUM. She later obtained he Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) Child  Development and Education from University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom. Dr Mastura has been actively involved in various projects and programmes in Child Education including as an expert panel to develop the strategic plan, the curriculum and module blueprint for PERMATA Early Childhood Care and Education Program, 2006-2013, Prime Minister Department.

Her research interests are in Early Childhood Development and Education, Child Psychology and Early Detection and Intervention of Children with Special Needs Islamic Parenting.

Dr-Mohd-Mahyudi-Mohd-Yusop

DR MOHD MAHYUDI MOHD YUSOP is currently a faculty member at the Department of Economics, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His area of interest is Economics philosophy and thought. He teaches subjects related to Islamic Economics at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels; and engages in research activities on the same subject matter through his roles as supervisor and researcher.

He has written and involved in research on topics of zakah, Islamic finance products, Islamic Economics education, social and moral economy, and public policy. In general, his works fall under the critique project of Islamic Economics with analysis on the origin, development and impact of Islamic Economics as alternative economics idea.

Dr. Mohd Mahyudi obtained a BSc in Finance and Accounting from the University of Salford, UK; before completing his post-graduate studies with MBA and PhD. Economics degrees at IIUM.

Beyond his official commitments, he humbly tries to be an active member of the community. At various phases of his life, he has actively participated in student bodies; non-governmental organisations at district, state and national levels; staff association; religious institutions; and parents and teachers association. In the period 2015-2017, he is one the executive committee members of MUAFAKAT, an Islamic NGO committed to the preservation and advancement of the Islamic intellectual tradition in the context of contemporary times.

Apart from ISSI, he is also furthering the cause of human rights in his capacity as a Fellow in Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA).

Azril-Mohd-Amin

AZRIL MOHD AMIN  has an honours degree in law (LLB) from the Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University, Malaysia and was a Chevening scholar whilst reading MA in Human Rights at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London in 2005. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2000 and has been practising law ever since. He has over a decade of experience in law and human rights for the Asia-Pacific region.

He is one of the founding members and directors of Himpunan Keilmuwan Islam (HAKIM) since 2012, Panel Member of the Islamic Consultative Council (2016-2018) and chairman of Human Rights Cluster of Majlis Amal Islami (under the Islamic Foundation of Malaysia) since 2014.
His involvement with civil society accelerated in 2013 when he founded and led the MuslimUPRo delegation, a coalition of 16 major Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGI), to Malaysia’s 2nd Universal Periodic Review at the 25th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

In 2014, he founded and became the chief executive of CENTHRA (Centre for Human Rights Research and Advocacy) a full-fledged research and advocacy outfit focusing on issues of Islam and Human Rights. He had since spend much of his time managing projects and establishing triadic relationships for CENTHRA, domestically and internationally.

He also writes a personal blog which is focused mainly on Islam and human rights issues.

Ahmad-Shaiful-Alwi-Md-Noor

AHMAD SHAIFUL ALWI MD NOR is a professional pharmacist by training and has over 20 years experience in business management. He obtained a BSc. (Hons) Pharmacy from Sunderland University, United Kingdom in 1994 and Master in Business Administration (MBA) from University of South Australia in 2009. His business and management exposures include retail industry, hospital management, franchise operations, marketing and product management.

He holds the position as the board member of Mandalika Malaysia Chamber of Commerce (MMCC) and was the Board Member of Koperasi Belia Islam Malaysia Berhad (KBI) from year 2006 to 2010. He also once served as the board member for various national and regional trade associations such as The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA Malaysia), ASEAN Alliance of Health Supplement Association (AAHSA), and Brunei Health Supplement Association (BruHSA). He represented the ASEAN traditional and health supplement industry to ASEAN meetings and government-industry taskforces in his capacity as industry expert.

In the community services he is the co-founder of Pertubuhan Ikatan Kekeluargaan Rumpun Nusantara (HARUM) and recently, he is being appointed as the President of Adam Charitable Foundation (ACF) which is a global philanthropic and humanitarian based organisation.

His current research interests are in the area of Islamic economy, management & leadership practices and regulatory policy.
